Two forms of expanded graphite used for fire prevention

At high temperature, the expanded graphite expands rapidly, which stifles the flame. At the same time, the expanded graphite material produced by it covers the surface of the substrate, which isolates the thermal radiation from the contact with oxygen and acid free radicals. When expanding, the interior of the interlayer is also expanding, and the release also promotes the carbonization of the substrate, thus achieving good results through various flame retardant methods. The following editor of Furuite Graphite introduces two forms of expanded graphite used for fire prevention:

First, the expanded graphite material is mixed with rubber material, inorganic flame retardant, accelerator, vulcanizing agent, reinforcing agent, filler, etc., and various specifications of expanded sealing strips are made, which are mainly used in fire doors, fire windows and other occasions. This expanded sealing strip can block the flow of smoke from beginning to end at room temperature and fire.

The other is to use glass fiber tape as the carrier, and adhere expanded graphite to the carrier with a certain adhesive. The shear resistance provided by carbide formed by this adhesive at high temperature can effectively prevent graphite from being damaged. It is mainly used for fire doors, but it cannot effectively block the flow of cold smoke at room temperature or low temperature, so it must be used in conjunction with room temperature sealant.

Fire-proof sealing strip Because of the expansibility and high temperature resistance of expanded graphite, expanded graphite has become an excellent sealing material and is widely used in the field of fire-proof sealing.
