1. Metallurgical industry
In metallurgical industry, natural graphite powder can be used to produce refractory materials such as magnesium carbon brick and aluminum carbon brick due to its good oxidation resistance. Artificial graphite powder can be used as the electrode of steelmaking, but the electrode made of natural graphite powder is difficult to be used in the electric furnace of steelmaking.
2. Machinery industry
In the mechanical industry, graphite materials are usually used as wear-resisting and lubricating materials. The initial raw material for the preparation of expandable graphite is high carbon flake graphite, and other chemical reagents such as concentrated sulfuric acid (above 98%), hydrogen peroxide (above 28%), potassium permanganate and other industrial reagents are used. The general steps of preparation are as follows: at appropriate temperature, different proportions of hydrogen peroxide solution, natural flake graphite and concentrated sulfuric acid are added in different procedures, and reacted for a certain time under constant agitation, then washed to neutral, centrifugal separation, dehydration and vacuum drying at 60 ℃. Natural graphite powder has good lubricity and is often used as an additive in lubricating oil. For conveying corrosive medium, piston rings, sealing rings and bearings made of artificial graphite powder are widely used, without adding lubricating oil when working. Natural graphite powder and polymer resin composites can also be used in the above fields, but the wear resistance is not as good as artificial graphite powder.
3. Chemical industry
Artificial graphite powder has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity, low permeability, and is widely used in the chemical industry to make heat exchanger, reaction tank, absorption tower, filter and other equipment. Natural graphite powder and polymer resin composite materials can also be used in the above fields, but the thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance is not as good as artificial graphite powder.
With the development of research technology, the application prospect of artificial graphite powder is immeasurable. At present, using natural graphite as raw material to develop artificial graphite products can be regarded as one of the important ways to expand the application field of natural graphite. Natural graphite powder has been used as auxiliary raw material in the production of some artificial graphite powder, but it is not enough to develop artificial graphite products with natural graphite powder as main raw material. The best way to realize this goal is to make full use of the structure and characteristics of natural graphite powder, and to produce artificial graphite products with special structure, performance and use by appropriate technology, route and method.
