1. Metallurgical industry

Artificial graphite powder can be used as steel-making electrode, but electrodes made of natural graphite powder are difficult to use in steel-making electric furnaces with harsh operating conditions.

In the machinery industry, graphite materials are usually used as wear-resistant and lubricating materials. The initial raw material for the preparation of expandable graphite is high-carbon flake graphite, and other chemical reagents such as concentrated sulfuric acid (above 98%), hydrogen peroxide (above 28%), potassium permanganate, etc. are all industrial-grade reagents. The general steps of preparation are as follows: at a suitable temperature, different proportions of hydrogen peroxide solution, natural flake graphite and concentrated sulfuric acid are added in different procedures, reacted for a certain period of time under constant stirring, then washed with water until neutral, and centrifuged. After dehydration, it was vacuum-dried at 60 °C. Natural graphite powder has good lubricity and is often used as an additive for lubricating oils. The equipment for conveying corrosive medium widely uses piston rings, sealing rings and bearings made of artificial graphite powder, and does not need to add lubricating oil during operation. Natural graphite powder and polymer resin composite materials can also be used in the above fields, but the wear resistance is not as good as that of artificial graphite powder.

3. Chemical industry

Artificial graphite powder has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, good thermal conductivity and low permeability. It is widely used in the chemical industry to make heat exchangers, reaction tanks, absorption towers, filters and other equipment. Natural graphite powder and polymer resin composite materials can also be used in the above fields, but the thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance are not as good as those of artificial graphite powder.

With the continuous development of research technology, the application prospect of artificial graphite powder is immeasurable. At present, the development of artificial graphite products with natural graphite as raw material is one of the important ways to expand the application field of natural graphite.
